WFTO awards companies that are committed to improving the living and working conditions of producers in developing countries. WFTO verifies that member companies are aligned with the ten principles of fair trade.
The WFTO Fair Trade Standard is awarded by the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO). More than 400 fair trade organisations have joined forces in the WFTO.
WFTO is a membership organisation. Only companies that successfully pass the system are allowed to label their products with the WFTO Guaranteed Fair Trade label.

Which lifecycle phases are covered by the standard?

Raw materials extraction and production

Cultivation of natural fibers (e.g. cotton) and production of synthetic fibers (e.g. polyester)

Manufacturing

The production and further processing of yarns and fabrics into a finished garment involves many sub-steps (e.g. spinning, weaving and knitting, sewing, tailoring and finishing)

Transportation / distribution

The transport route from one production stage to the next as well as to the end consumer

End-of-life

Proper disposal of textiles or return of materials to the cycle (recycling)
