The CSE certification is a cross-sector sustainability certification for companies and sustainably oriented organisations. The CSE label is a label of quality for products from a verified sustainable company. The CSE standard is reviewed regularly and continues to evolve. Currently, the CSE standard is available for these industries: Organic food, Natural cosmetics, Organic detergents and cleaning agents, Natural products, Products from a circular economy (e.g. recycled plastics), Trade, service providers, Banks. CSE wants to give consumers a differentiator so that products from a holistically sustainable company can be recognized. CSE includes respect for human rights, promotion of eco-agriculture, climate-neutral production, ethical finance and other minimum requirements.
GfaW is a standard provider and developer of certification systems for sustainable business management and environmentally compatible products.
CSE is a comprehensive and holistic certification. Accordingly, the required CSE criteria must be met in all subsequent headings. Otherwise, certification is not possible. Rubrics: Business Model, QM system (ISO 14001:2015), Environment, Supply chains, Working environment, Market & Ethics, Finance.

Which lifecycle phases are covered by the standard?

Raw materials extraction and production

Cultivation of renewable raw materials (e.g. palm oil) and/or extraction and production of ingredients

Manufacturing

Production of detergents and cleaning agents by the mixing of various ingredients (vegetable or petroleum-based)

Transportation / distribution

Transport routes from one production stage to the next and to end users

Products use and consumption

Usage of detergents and cleaning agents

End-of-life

Proper disposal of packaging along with degradability and toxicity of the product (in water) after its use
